On Thursday, March 20, 2008, at 7 PM EDT,
I confirmed with the Scangauge Marketing Manager, Joey, Ext. 13,
a $149.95 Group Buy for fortwochat.com members (shipping is included).

I informed him, I was not the administrator, only a member, and he said that is fine.  Mention fortwochat.com when ordering.

fortwochat.com Group Buy Price:  $149.95 (includes shipping same or next day, delivery to you in approximately 3 to 4 days)
...  after spending over an hour on the net, searching for the best Scangauge price, $149.95 was the best price I could find.  Joey said he would match that price, since I found it, for our fortwochat.com forum.

If you want a second 6 foot cable, for multiple cars, so you don't have to take the cable out of one car, and put it in another, ...  add $14.95, for a total of $164.90 (includes shipping).  If you are unsure about the extra cable, you can order the cable later, shipped separately, for $20 (includes shipping).

You may order two ways:  paypal, or phone.  You must include  'fortwochat.com' forum, to get this group buy price.

Paypal:
1)  send paypal request to
...  groupbuy@linear-logic.com
2)  include
...  fortwochat.com in message
...  the group buy price $149.95 that includes shipping.
...  for a complete ScangaugeII for the 2008 USA smart car.
...  Attn to Joey, Marketing Manager,  Ext 13.
...  Optional:  "IF" you want the extra cable, note same, add $14.95 to the total paypal price sent, for a total of $164.90 (includes shipping).

Phone:
1)  Call toll free 1-888-433-5664
2)  Ask for Ext 13, and to speak to Joey, Marketing Manager.
3)  Tell him, you are calling regarding the 'fortwochat.com' group buy for the ScangaugeII, for a 2008 USA smart car, for $149.95 (includes shipping)
4)  We did not discusss how to pay (I forgot to ask), but, I presume it will be typcial Master Charge or Visa, if over the phone.
5)  "IF" you want an optional extra "2nd" 6 foot cable (not required), tell him and add $14.95 (includes shipping) to your total purchase price.

With your $149.95 fortwochat.com group buy purchase, you get:
a)  the ScangaugeII,
b)  the X-Gauge (extra info for your gauge, Im not sure all thats in there, but, i.e., the latest product offerring),
c)  velcro to install the gauge on or in your dash,
d)  one 6 foot cable,
e)  no extra charge for shipping, generally shipped same or next day, with arrival about 3 or 4 business days.
f)  instruction booklet.

Happy Easter Everyone!

Can someone show me pics of what it looks like installed in the car?
That's a great deal for the Scangauge and I gather the orange/black LED display matches nicely?
Also, since I don't know all of it's features, well, what does it do? Trip counter, compass, MPG somehow.. what else?
Where does it plug in? Installation time? etc?

You can change the color to match your car. Installation time should take 10 minutes. You find the ODB port under your dash and you're done.

I have a green on black in my rover, for the smart, it will be orange on black.

I will probably "velcro" mine to the side cubby that is to the left of the wheel.

another tip:

I found industrial strength velcro at Lowes tonight, for $2.97 for a small black or white color pack, likely enough to do two scanguages.

When applying the velcro, it said on the directions of the industrial strength package, that if you move it, after installing, it will weaken the holding power of the velcro sticky side.

So, when you are putting on the standard velcro, from scanguage, make sure the surfaces are clean and dry, and, be careful to position it only once, and then don't move it, on its permanent spot.  Also, it takes 24 hours to attain full holding strength, so do not disturb or use it, during that time.

That may help it hold, so the industrial strength version may not be required.

thanks for the pics!  oh, a note on velcro.. it doesn't like direct sun, the adhesive under it will breakdown a bit and stuff attached will slide around due to gravity! havent had much of an issue taking that into account, but yeah I have seen some instances where that is a bother.. things mounted on the dash for example. uh.. in that case, get tinted windows and windscreen covers for whilst you are parked!

I installed my ScanGauge in the LH cubby because it is high enough for me to see vs. the mounting below the center, switch panel area.  I didn't like the cheap velcro that came with it so I used three layers of 3M trim tape on the top of the gauge.  Why 3, because where you need to mount it is to the plastic area that you find in the cubby, just ahead of where the fabric dash stops.  And in that area there is a screw head that sticks down.  If you use one layer it will cock the gauge and you won't have much adhesive grip.  Three lets you build it up and just leave it off the area where the screw is.  I have changed functions many times and it has stayed and once in awhile I "pinch it" to not load the tape, but so far in two and a half months it has been great.

Thanks for the update.

A few questions:

1) What does ...  "pinch it" to not load the tape ...  mean?  Does this mean, you squeeze the gauge, up against the top of the cubby, to sort of give a new grip on its holding surface?

2)  Where can one buy the 3m trim tape?  Price?

3)  What is the thickness of the 3m tape?  Is it similar to thin clear standard scotch tape, or a bit thicker duct tape, or 1/16th inch thick, or 1/8th inch thick, or ?.

4)  Do you still like the scangauge in this position, and can you see it pretty well, in this location?  ...  I leave the seat all the way back, and when i visualize where the gauge would be, in the left cubby,  ...  it seems the view of its screen, may be a little limited.  That, maybe only the right third or so of the screen would be able to be seen. Is that sufficient? ...  If you let your seat all the way back, do you still have a pretty good view of the scangauge screen, in the left cubby area?  Net net, is seeing only 1/3 of the screen at a time, sufficient to get/see the gauge info?

5) Do you still like the scangauge, and feel its worth the investment, of $150?  I'm getting good mpg now, without the scangauge, having learned a few of the ways to boost mpg, using a relatives Buick LeSabre mpg gauge, to see how it changes, with different driving styles.  So, just making sure/hoping, I will get $150 worth, of incremental benefit, for a new $150 purchase.  ...  What three or four scangauge readings do you find most helpful?  I.e., is it primarily for MPG, or are you finding other things interesting also?

Thanks.

Today, April 23, 2008,
Amazon appears to have an even better price,
$139.84, with free shipping, at:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000AAMY86/ref=nosim/coffeeresearch4529-20

Later edit, two hours later:

While I still have the $139 price in my history page, or maybe a better wording would be my current earlier today separate tab window form two hours ago, it looks like it was a mistake.    When I now click on this link, it says the price is back up to $159.  So, our fortwochat.com group buy price, of $149.95 with free shipping, seems to be the best price again, and the $139.84 new found amazon price this morning, has disappeared..

I did contact the Scangauge company, and they said, if Amazon   did offer it for the $139 price earlier today, it was a mistake, and they were going to contact the amazon company, to tell them to fix their google ad price.

And, indeed, the price at that link, jsut two hours later, is back up to $159.  Oh well.
